Professional Development Recommendations and Questions

There are so many learning and development conferences, seminars, and certification programs offered each year. It can be a challenge to research them and then narrow down the options to those that meet both your development needs and your budget.

Please post a comment to highlight your experience with a conference and whether you recommend participating, or a question you have for your colleagues who might have attended a specific program you are considering.

Thanks in adance for sharing!

In 2011, I attended ASTD's International Conference and Exposition in Orlando. There I attended a session by Michael Wilkinson on the secrets of successful facilitation. It was the best session of the conference. I immediately bought his book, "The Secrets of Facilitation: The S.M.A.R.T. Guide to Getting Results with Groups." SMART stands for Structured Meeting and Relating Techinques. I also attended their one week course called, "The Effective Facilitator." It was excellent and very hands on. As trainers, we all benefit from knowing how to better prepare for, plan, facilitate, close and follow up on our training. If you do any strategic planning consulting or focus groups, this training is a must! You won't regret it - very practical tips that can be implemented immediately. If you can't attend the course, do buy the book - it's worth every penny!
