What benefits have you found being a National ASTD member?

The start of a new year is a great time to take a moment and get more organized! I wanted to share with you a few tips that I have found helpful when trying to manage my time better.
    • Use a planner to track appointments and tasks. It can be a paper-based notebook, a computer software program, or an electronic handheld device.
    • Create at least one hour of uninterrupted time per day to tackle projects and action items.

    • Allocate twice as much time for a task as you think it will take. This accommodates for interruptions and stopping to get more information.

    • Break large projects down into small, sequential steps. Schedule these steps into your day with your planner.

Do you have any great tips to share?

Hawkeye ASTD wants to congratulate Meg Dindinger and Susan Weinschenk for successfully passing the written examination for the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) certification. A big Standing Ovation!  Ladies - you rock!

Both participated in our Hawkeye ASTD virtual study group. Special thanks to Marcie Van Note for coordinating the sessions and to all of the facilitators for their passion, dedication and willingness to share their knowledge and experience.

To complete the certification process, both Susan and Meg will be submitting a work product to ASTD.  We wish them the very best of success as they demonstrate their expertise in workplace performance, learning and development.

If you are interested in learning more about the CPLP certification, please post your questions here.  We'd love to see more and more of our members certified!

One of the benefits of being a National ASTD member is being able to access leading edge research on our profession.

ASTD's 2012 State of the Industry Report was just released. It is available as a free PDF to ASTD members.  The cost is $499 to non-members.

Using the report is an excellent way to benchmark your workplace learning and development efforts against the best in the industry.

The report covers content, delivery methods, direct expenditures on learning and development, learning and development staffing and much more. As an example, some of the statistics include:

The average direct expenditure on learning and development per employee was $1,182.00.

The number of annual learning hours per employee was 30.5.

If you are not a national ASTD member, I encourage you to consider joining.  As a Hawkeye ASTD member, you may join for a reduced rate of $179.00 per year.  The resources available to you, such as this report, provide a positive return on your investment!

If you have are a National ASTD member and would like to comment on the benefits you receive from being a joint member, let's hear from you here!
