    Don't forget that May 29th Hawkeye ASTD in partnership with the Nonprofit Network will be providing training for anyone who works and volunteers at a nonprofit.  While the training is at Mt. Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, we welcome and encourage participation from other areas.  The cost for the day is $25.00 which include top notch training, continental breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.   Please, help us spread the word.     Have you ever wondered what CPLP was about?  Ever wondered why I would become CPLP certified?  Ever wonder if there was any way of defraying some of the costs associated with becoming CPLP certified?    As an employer, ever wonder what the value is to having your team CPLP certified?

    These questions and so many more will be answered in a webinar on May 9th from noon until 1:30.   Trish Uhl owner of Owl’s Ledge will be leading the webinar.  Trish helped write the questions for the first CPLP test and travels the world coaching people on CPLP and preparing them for the test.

    Join us on June 10th at noon to chat with our very own Hawkeye ASTD members who are CPLP certified and those that have taken the test and are work on phase 2 of their certification.  These “rock stars” will be available to answer questions and talk about why they made the choice to seek CPLP certification.

    Registration is open for the 2nd Nonprofit Day Training.  One of the Chapter's strategic goals is to promote ASTD in our communities.  We will be doing this by providing a day of training for anyone who works for or volunteers at a nonprofit for only $25.00 on May 29th!   Spread the word.     The quality most needed among teammates amidst the pressure of a difficult challenge is collaboration. Becoming a collaborative team player requires a change in four areas:

     

    1.Perception: See teammates as collaborators, not competitors-completing one another is more important than competing with one another.

     

    2.Attitude: Be supportive, not suspicious, of teammates-if you trust people, you will treat them better. And both you and they will be more likely to create collaborative relationships.

     

    3.Focus: Concentrate on the team, not yourself-author Cavett Roberts points out, "True progress in any field is a relay race and not a single event." If you focus on the team and not just yourself, you will be able to pass the baton when necessary.

     

    4.Results: Create great victories through multiplication-collaboration has a multiplying effect on everything you do, because it releases and harnesses not only your skills but those of everyone on the team.

    Our site visit to Rockwell Collins in March includes a program about their corporate university. Please note that due to the inclusion of proprietary information, printed materials from this program will be provided ONLY to attendees.

     Our first CPLP study group of 2013 will begin the week of March 4th. We will pick the exact day of the week once we know who is interested.  Please contact me by Monday, February 25th if you are interested in this study group.
