Name: Jen Kovach
Position and Employer: Intermediate Trainer, TATA Consultancy Services; Owner, JLK Training and Consulting
How long have you been with your employer and/or in your position? 2 years at TATA as a trainer and owned my company for 7 years.
How long have you been a member of ATD Hawkeye Chapter? 1 Year
What do you enjoy most about ATD Hawkeye Chapter? The thing I enjoy most is the opportunity to develop my professional growth through networking and attending meetings and listening to speakers. Being part of a recognized professional organization has really given me tools as a trainer that I can use in my everyday job.
Name a professional challenge you have experienced, and share how ATD Hawkeye has helped you overcome it. As someone who is very passionate about adult learning, I sometimes struggle when my colleagues are not and teach in one way only. By listening to some of the presentations and talking with others, it has helped me to not only develop myself and my styles but to help other see the importance of different learning and teaching styles.
What is your favorite part of the learning and development field? When you have someone in the class and they have that AHA moment, especially with a challenging topic or concept. It is very rewarding as well when you see past class members come back for advanced training due to high job performance. Makes you feel like you had a part in their success.
Who is currently one of your favorite speakers or authors, and why? Personally, I really enjoy fellow ATD member Gail Mote. I heard her speak years ago and she was one of my influencers to start my own company. Very inspirational and engaging. I also really like Rachel Hollis. A lot of her messages are similar to what I preach during some of my own sessions.
What are your hobbies or favorite things to do with your time? I enjoy doing Crossfit, sampling craft beer with my husband, hanging out with my two daughters, and reading.
