Unlocking Non-Profit Talent


Non-Profit Training Day is our award-winning event for anyone who works or volunteers for a non-profit organization.  It's a way to invest in yourself by enjoying an informative, fun, and energizing day of networking and learning.

When:  Thursday, June 22nd. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.; sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Where:  Mt. Mercy University's CRST International Graduate Center, 1650 Matterhorn Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA

Cost: $40 includes sessions, session materials, lunch, snacks and beverages.

Non-Profit Training Day is dedicated to building skills and focusing on professional development of individuals who work and/or volunteer with a non-profit organization.  Our event opens with a keynote speaker who will speak for roughly one hour.  After the keynote speech, the attendees will split into breakout sessions.  The breakout sessions will share skills and strategies to apply in attendees' professional or volunteer positions, as well as focus on topics that will further their personal and professional development.  

This year's theme for NPTD is "Unlocking Non-Profit Talent: From Attraction to Retention, Leadership to Culture, and Performance to Progress."  Come Learn How To Build a Non-Profit Dream Team!

7:30 - 8:00 - Check-in and Breakfast 

8:00 - 8:30 - Introductions and Sponsor Time

8:30 - 9:30 - Keynote Speaker Paulette Milewski on "The Power of Belonging: Nurturing Culture and Workforce Retention Through Organizational Purpose"

Breakout sessions:

Track 1:  Attracting and Retaining Top Talent.  This track will cover topics such as employee branding, recruitment strategies, employee engagement, and retention tactics.

9:45 - 11:15 - Andrew J. Vaughn on "Competitive Compensation Modeling"

12:15 - 1:45 - Kayla Paulson on "Strategic Volunteer Recruitment & Retention"

2:00 - 3:30 - Molly J. Mackey on "Train to Retain: Using Training as a Strategy to Keep Top Talent"

Track 2:  Developing Leaders and Cultivating a Strong Organizational Culture.  This track will explore how to develop leadership skills within your organization, create a positive workplace culture, and foster collaboration and teamwork.

9:45 - 11:15 - Sheri Zevenbergen on "Who Do You Think You ARE: The Importance of Self Awareness for You & Your Organization"

12:15 - 1:45 - Heather Marquez on "Turning Generational Diversity into a Competitive Advantage"

2:00 - 3:30 - Angelica Vannatta on "Leadership Development for Board Service"

Track 3:  Performance Management and Career Development.  This track will focus on topics such as setting performance goals, providing feedback and coaching, creating career paths and opportunities for professional growth, and measuring the impact of training and development programs.

9:45 - 11:15 - Deb Dirks on "Communication for Improved Performance"

12:15 - 1:45 - Paulette Milewski on "Take Charge of Your Career"

2:00 - 3:30 - Brenda Meeker on "Favoring Feedback: Embracing Conversations to Move Us Forward"

3:30 - 4:15 - Wrap Up, Networking and Prize Drawing

Lunch is from 11:15 to 12:15 and we will have breaks from 9:30 to 9:45 and from 1:45 to 2:00.
